The little moments

I got around to playing with the “toys” on wordpress to spruce up the blog a bit. I love the new picture I have for the header. It was one of those “perfect moments” as a dad where a picture actually tells it all. When I look at the picture, I can’t help but smile because it was a moment of joy, truly blessed by God. I literally sat back in my chair, and realized that I need to appreciate the little moments more. Our time here is fleeting, as it says in James 4:14 – “You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.”

I sit here and realize how blessed I am, despite the money problems. Despite the job problems. Despite the car problems, and the house problems, and the people problems. I have an amazing Proverbs 31 wife, and two wonderful daughters that really make me happy and joyful. I did nothing to deserve them, but God chose to bless my life through them. Wow. God truly is the source of our joy, and He gives us the little moments in life to experience His joy.

Vacation

OK, I have been gone a while. My apologies to both my readers (my wife and my dog, not necessarily in that order) for not posting in some time. It was pointed out to me that my subtitle to my blog is “What is God teaching me today?” So I guess I signed up for the daily update version. Man, I shoulda read the fine print…

I actually have had a topic on my mind for some time. I recently did a lot of travel for work where I was staying in a hotel by myself for a couple nights. Like a good little boy, I took my Bible to read for my devotional time, but I was not motivated. I had so much free time to dig in to His Word, but I just didn’t want to. I kept hearing in my head “you’re on a vacation kinda. Just watch tv and take time off from that. You haven’t seen ‘Who’s Line’ in sooooo long you neeeed to watch the marathon tonight.”

That got me to thinking about how I am good about spending time with God when it is my routine. I have no problems cracking open the Word on Monday thru Friday Mornings, when I have taken my shower, ate my breakfast, and sat down for that allotted time I have set aside those days. But I really don’t do very good on Saturdays, Sundays (when not at church) and when I am not at home, i.e. on vacation, visiting family, or traveling for work. Why is that? Why do we feel that a vacation or time off includes God’s time? He doesn’t take time off from us, so why should we put Him aside on our free time? Especially when we have MORE free time to have with him those days?

It is refreshing to know that God never takes a vacation from us. He will always be right with us, where ever we are. Especially when we think we can take a vacation from Him. I need to be constantly seeking Him, not just my routine days.
