Eye opener

This week has been an interesting one for me as a coach. One of my 15 year old boys suddenly lost his mother on Monday. As one who has pretty much had a “typical” experience with death (pretty much older family has passed as expected – grandparents, great grandparents, older celebrities, etc.), I was not one who lost a close family member at an early age. I did have a friend in high school lose his battle with lukemia, but that was “handleable.”

But seeing one of my guys lose his mother at 15, made me think about what would I do if something happened to someone close to me? Am I ready for “unexpected tragedy, or am I gonna get blind-sided? Will my girls be taken care of if something were to happen to me?

This brings me to the thought that we don’t necessarily need to be living scared that we or someone we love is going to pass, but are we prepared to face it? Have we told those we love about Christ while we HAVE THE CHANCE? Or are we living comfortably with where we are in life and leaving the “spiritual talks” up to other people? I know I am not one to face confrontation, and definitely don’t like rejection or awkward-ness between me and someone else.

What a lame excuse when talking about someone’s eternity…
